Larch Wood Canada End-Grain Cutting Boards

End-grain cutting boards.
Handcrafted end-grain cutting boards from Cape Breton, Canada. Warm grain, a considered cutting surface and a place at your table.
WHY LARCH WOOD
Good tools make
room for good food.
Larch Wood Canada uses Eastern Canadian larch, assembled with the end grain facing up to create a distinctive working surface.
Cut, arrange and bring food to the table. With hand washing, thorough drying and regular conditioning, it is a board to keep in your everyday routine.

A surface kind to knives
Upright wood fibres allow the blade to enter between them, giving a resilient cutting feel.
No two patterns alike
Natural colour and growth rings give each board its own character, from kitchen counter to table.
Thoughtful details
Rubber feet create clearance below the board, making it easier to lift and allowing air beneath it.
END GRAIN
A different direction.
A different cutting feel.
End grain is the cross section you see when wood is cut across its trunk. Think of the ends of a brush: the fibres point up towards the cutting surface.
The blade can move between those fibres, which tend to close again afterwards. This does not make the board scratch-proof, but it helps explain the gentle cutting feel.
Best for people who value wood and regular care over the lightest weight or dishwasher convenience.
The ends of the fibres face up.
Blocks are joined with the growth-ring cross sections facing upwards. A blade meets the ends of the fibres rather than cutting across their length.

CAPE BRETON, CANADA
Crafted where the larch grows.

01 / MATERIAL
Eastern Canadian larch.
The wood is Larix laricina, an Eastern Canadian larch. Locally sourced timber is kiln-dried before it is worked; its growth rings become part of the finished design.

02 / PEOPLE
From a Cape Breton workshop.
Founded in Margaree, Nova Scotia in 2003, the workshop began with flooring before developing cutting boards. Local chefs tried the early prototypes and provided practical feedback.

03 / CHARACTER
Natural pattern, practical purpose.
The blocks are brought together into an end-grain surface. Changes in tone and grain are natural: your board will have its own pattern rather than exactly matching a photograph.
AT HOME, AT THE TABLE
From the first cut to the last bite.

Everyday preparation
Space for vegetables, fruit and bread. The rectangular format offers a useful work area for everyday cooking.

Food worth sharing
Arrange cheese, appetisers or bread. Use it as a serving piece for a relaxed evening or a café presentation.

Standard Line and Premium: what changes?
The maker describes Standard Line as showing more natural knots and colour variation. It is an appearance distinction, not a claim of lower performance. Confirm the line and pattern offered in the selected listing.
Read the maker’s line comparisonBefore choosing, check your worktop and sink space, and whether you are comfortable lifting a thick wooden board. It is not a substitute for a lightweight, dishwasher-safe plastic board.

CARE & QUESTIONS
Care for the years ahead.
Can I use baking soda or bleach?
Larch Wood advises against baking soda and bleach. Do not treat every dark mark as the same problem; contact the seller before bleaching or sanding. See our dedicated care page.
How should I clean the board?
Hand wash. Wipe with a damp cloth or sponge; use a little mild detergent and warm running water when needed. Dry thoroughly before storing.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
No. Avoid soaking, concentrated heat and direct sunlight. Do not place hot pots or pans directly on the board.
How often should I condition it?
The maker recommends weekly conditioning for the first month, then monthly. Apply to the dry top, sides and underside, allow it to absorb and buff with a dry cloth. Adjust to the board’s condition.
Will mine match the photograph?
Each board has a different arrangement of grain, colour and natural features. Product images show the format; the exact pattern varies.
Can I order for a business or gifting project?
Contact H&K about wholesale, retail assortment or gifting. Share the product, quantity, required date and destination; we will confirm availability and terms.
